Sean Paul readies to return to the scene with a new album entitled “Imperial Blaze” which will be released August 18th. Fans have not had a Sean Paul project to do the “Dutty Wine” on since 2005 when he released The Trinity(Atlantic Records).
Sean Paul is not your typical reggae artist. It is common that he was born in Kingston like most Jamaican reggae artists but he was raised in a more comfortable situation in Upper Saint Andrew Parish just a few miles north of his birthplace. He attended the Wolmers High School for Boys, where he was trained as a classical flautist. His grandfather was a Sephardic Jew whose family immigrated from Portugal and his grandmother was a Afro-Caribean. His parents were talented athletes. His mother Frances, a well known painter, is of English and Chinese-Jamaican descent and was a backstroke swimmer on Jamaica’s national swim team. His grandfather was on the first Jamaican men’s national water polo team. His father also played water polo for the team in the 1960’s and competed in long distance swimming. Sean Paul himself played for the national water polo team from the age of 13 to 21 only to give up the sport to launch his musical career.
He left the water for the fire and the rest was history. Many remember him from his most notable works such as his “here comes the boom” song “Top Shotter” which featured DMX and Mr. Vegas on the classic movie Belly’s soundtrack, his single “Gimme the light” as well as his Billboard 100 chart topper “Get Busy.” Another one of his early most notable projects was a collabo with Beyonce Knowles US number 1 single “Baby Boy.”
On Trace TV, Sean Paul said the album’s title means “Kings Fire.” He went on futher to say “I’m not the king. I’m the fire, I’m the flame, I’m the energy.”
With the return of Sean Paul in the horizon with his “Imperial Blaze,” radio and clubs alike will embrace the heatmizer for a sure fire experience of party reggae.
