Music Branding, What is it Exactly?

Music branding is different from other branding types in that it encompasses very specific elements. Music can be a commodity brand, concept brand, and identity brand all at the same time. If you look at the four major labels (Sony Music Entertainment, EMI Group, Warner Music Group, and Universal Music Group) and their respective subsidiary labels, they tend to cater to genre specific musicians. That’s because labels identify themselves by the type (concept) of music (commodity) they create. EMI, Sony, Universal to Start Music Video Site Called Vevo

According to The New York Times, a new website for music videos called VEVO will be introduced on Tuesday evening. The Abu Dhabi Media Company, Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment all co-own VEVO. They will launch it at a time that the music industry is experiencing drastic changes due to the new technology. This will be the latest move for top music labels to generate more income for their content. Read more
